Hot Ice

The road to spring in Muskoka is filled with melting snow and ice.  Streams are swelling and running fast

Although the ice on the lake has become too slushy for cross country skiing, it is still thick and not about to leave today or tomorrow. As Dan Boothby commented yesterday, "If the rain were hot water, the ice would go out on schedule in the middle of April."

The warm sunny days and cold nights are preventing flooding so I am happy to wait a few extra weeks for the ice to go out.  It is a lovely time of year to walk and see the return of spring birds and the awaking of  small and large mammals from hibernation.
